Hi! I'm Carmen 

I am a third culture Kid,  with German and Chinese roots, educated and brought up in China, UK and Germany. I graduated with a psychology degree and am currently working as a recruiting professional in the tech industry. I enjoy getting to know people from different cultures and having conversations about the value of differences, spirituality, and relationships.

I also describe myself as a  dog-lover, fitness and dancer enthusiast, singer, and a people person who loves to have a good laugh!

On August 10th, 2020, I was diagnosed with lymphoma due to suffering from persistent symptoms of dried coughs, swelled lymph nodes, rashes, nerve pain, and dyspnea since the end of May 2020. Before my diagnosis, I have never heard of lymphoma nor did I have an idea how cancer was generally diagnosed. I thought that cancer was an old people's disease but little did I know that many young adults have been affected as well.

 

It took me five different doctors visits to finally confirm that I had cancer. Despite the fact that my symptoms were off, I was dismissed by the first four doctors- and I assume that it was due to my age, my "healthy-looking" appearance, and the prioritization of COVID. Prior to my cancer life, I wish I would've known more about lymphoma and how cancer was generally spotted. Cancer is scary yet common. One of the biggest takeaways for me was that early detection saves lives. Whether you have been diagnosed or know someone going through this horrible disease, we are all affected by cancer.  And this motivated me to initiate this blog to raise awareness and challenge the way society views cancer.  I would also like to dedicate this page to the doctors who have given me a second chance at life. Having said that, I want to use this chance to help others in return. 

I hope that this page may somewhat be helpful for bringing hope, encouragement, and smiles in times of adversity.
